Living in a Biosphere - Galloway & Ayrshire

YOUR BIOSPHERE - YOUR VIEWS
Dumfries and Galloway, South Ayrshire and East Ayrshire Councils, together with Scottish Natural Heritage and Forestry Commission Scotland are keen to canvas views on the future of the UNESCO designated Biosphere in South West Scotland. The current designation is restricted to the statutorily designated conservation areas of Cairnsmore of Fleet, Merrick Kells and Silver flowe. Under the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) programme the biosphere criteria have been broadened significantly to encompass sustainable development as well as conservation objectives.

We very much welcome your views on a Galloway – Ayrshire Biosphere and would appreciate you taking the time to complete this questionnaire.

17. "Galloway and Ayrshire Biosphere" is a working title for the project. We would very muc welcome a better name - one that said something about the uniqueness of the area and the fact that it is shared between D&G and Ayrshire. If you have any suggestions - please note them here:

18. UNESCO are reviewing Biosphere designations and the designation will only continue if action is taken and evidence of support is produced.
