Savour the Flavours
Savour the Flavours has been invited to organise workshops by SAC whereby participants can get hold of free product specific consumer insight data. Basically this means if you manufacture goats cheese you'll get a report telling you how Tesco Clubcard data profiles goats cheese buyers – so a detailed consumer insights.
The project offers workshops which tap into dunnhumby Tesco Clubcard data and provide businesses with an understanding of the type of information and analysis that can be provided. Each company will get a report on products that they specify. A description of what is involved for a participating business is provided by the following text:
"The workshop will provide you with an opportunity to find out more about consumers and markets in order to inform the development of your products and marketing activities. It will explain the nature of the market information service (that relates to weekly supermarket purchasing data from a panel of 1.4 million UK households); report on consumer data relating to the product retail market and present examples of the type of analyses that can be provided using this information. A complimentary report will also be produced foryou, focused on products of importance to your business. The type of information provided can be of considerable value to small and large businesses alike, regardless of whether they are supplying supermarkets.
This initiative is being undertaken by SAC with the Centre for Value Chain Research at the Kent Business School with the aim of helping farmers and small and medium-sized food producers to improve their businesses by developing a better understanding of consumer preferences. Scottish Enterprise is a funder of the project along with SAC . There is no cost for businesses to attend or to receive a tailored report.
SAC would provide the staff to run the workshop and would provide the detailed reports that those attending would get. The products covered by these would be specified by the companies attending.
Two of the businesses who have attended the workshops have commented as follows:
" We have used the information provided in the development of our sales development and marketing strategy and has proved to be very useful " - Maureen McKenna, Taste of Arran .
" This is an excellent opportunity for SMEs to obtain world class data analysis for free! You'd be negligent to miss this opportunity ." - Kirstine Dinnes, TIO Ltd.
This is really valuable data for anyone who wants to get a thorough knowledge of their customers / potential customers. The reason why Tesco data is so particularly useful is that out of all the supermarkets, its customers are closest to the UK average.
Because you would normally have to buy this data, these workshops are only open to farmers and food producers with a turnover of less than £10m per annum. If your turnover exceeds that the data company expects you to buy data like this.
These workshops are being organised by Savour the Flavours but they are open to any / all producers and farmers with a turnover of less than £10m.
SAC have been asked to run two workshops in Dumfries & Galloway. These are provisionally scheduled for:
- Week commencing 5th October at Cream o’ Galloway Visitor Centre, Nr Gatehouse of Fleet
- Week commencing 12th October at Scottish Enterprise, Solway House, Dumfries
If you want to participate please contact Lorna Young on 01387 263886 as soon as possible. The workshops will last around 4 hours.
